Warm body and spirit with the Baytree Family

The Baytree Family – a group of 20-something professionals and designers who live in a co-operative house owned by Brixton Baptist Church – is organising a “Winter Warmer” meal tomorrow (25 February) to raise money for the local homeless charity Ace of Clubs.

The hearty home-made supper is open to all and you will pay what you feel. Bring your own drinks. It’s from 7 to 10pm at Brixton Baptist Church (Corrance Rd – off Acre Lane – entrance).

The Baytree family wants to create a more connected local community with welcoming and fun events that are open to all.

They focus their events around a theme and raise money for local charities but, they say, “our principal aim is to get local people together irrespective of age and background and if we raise a bit of cash for a good local cause that’s great too”.

So far, the family has organised a “Cook for Syria” event, a pay-what-you-feel meal on a Wednesday evening with live music, raising money for Hands up for Syria and Unicef.

Their second event was an afternoon Valentines clothes swap with tea and cakes donating funds and clothes to Solace Women’s Aid and Refuge.

As well as Ace of Clubs – which provided 21,000 free meals last year, and helps homeless and vulnerable people back onto their feet – Centre Point – the national charity with hostels across London that focuses on tackling youth homelessness will also benefit from the meal.
