Brixton’s favourite horse Pedro – complete with his Pedroscope – will be celebrating at Brockwell Lido on Sunday 4 October from 11am to 3.30pm.
The Ebony Horse Club has just got confirmation that it is to receive funding of £80,000 a year over three years to expand its current riding programme and to introduce additional sporting activities for young people.
Davinia Robinson, who joined the Ebony team as sports activator and youth worker thanks to Sport England funding, said: “This gives us a fantastic opportunity to do more to engage young people of 14 years and above in activity.
“Sport plays a vital role in developing positive physical and mental wellbeing. We see daily how horse riding increases confidence and self-esteem and with this funding we will be able to reach out to more young people.”
The cash will fund Ebony’s Raising our Games project which has already seen a climbing wall appear at its Wyck Gardens home near the Loughborough estate and will allow the club to offer activities in addition to its core services, which are accessed by 400 young people a year.
Ebony Horse Club has to raise on average £360,000 a year to meet its running costs – which are in addition to funding for projects like this. It relies mainly on generous grants from charitable trusts and donations from individuals.
