Future stars of British basketball are set to showcase their skills at a special event in SW9 this afternoon. Brixton Rec will play host to the one-day gathering that will feature the nation’s most talented under-19 and under-17 year old players.
The event, known as the Hoopsfix All-Star Classic, aims to nurture up-and-coming British players whilst helping to promote the sport across the country.
Twenty of the nation’s best under-17 year olds in play a 40-minute game at 2:00pm today coached by two top UK coaches. Brixton basketball legends Ronnie Baker and Junior Williams will lead the two teams in this age group. “We’re really excited to be coming to Brixton for our second year,” said Sam Neter, who founded Hoopsfix.com to help raise the profile of basketball in the UK. “With the Rec being considered to be the unofficial home of British basketball, it is the perfect place to bring the country’s future stars for a showcase.
