It’s here! It’s finally here! Joel and Ethan Coen’s comedy drama Inside Llewyn Davis is this week’s big release, hitting U.K screens in a swathe of film buzz and enthusiastic reviews. I personally can’t wait to see this one. Oscar Isaac plays Llewyn Davis, a troubled musician within the pre-Bob Dylan Greenwich Village folk scene of 1961, desperately trying to put his chaotic life in order. It also stars the amazing John Goodman, Justin Timberlake, and Carey Mulligan.

It seems to be a week of dysfunctional relationships and personal feuds as another wry comedy drama hits the screens. August Osage County stars Meryl Street as a bitter, prescription drug fuelled, sharp tongued matriarch verbally tormenting her family and causing general mayhem. The large ensemble cast also includes Ewen McGregor, Julia Roberts, Benedict Cumberbatch, the legendary Sam Shepard, and the return of nineties starlet Juliette Lewis.

Things seem equally dramatic for Gonzo who’s in the midst of an existential identity crisis in Muppets from Space (1999), which gets a Kids Club screening this weekend and also stars Ray Liotta and Andie McDowell. The Spike Jonze directed mind meld that is Adaptation (2002) gets a late night screening this week. And there is a Q&A with director Marc Singer following a screening of his seminal documentary Dark Days (2000), which captures a subterranean homeless community trying to survive within abandoned subway tunnels.

American Hustle, 12 Years a Slave, and The Wolf of Wall Street are all still doing the rounds, so all in all I’d say it was a pretty good week for a catching a movie. Happy viewing.
