Brixton Topcats vs London Capitals: 110-69
Brixton Topcats finished their season in style with a 110-69 thumping of local rivals London Capitals.
The Topcats were able to impose their offensive will on Capitals throughout the game, and set the tone with a 29-21 lead in the first quarter. Sam Toluwase – on his way to another enormous points tally (39) – lead the way, ably supported by sidekicks Tom Adorian, Karolis Petkus and Papa Demba Kasse.
The second quarter saw more of the same as Brixton cut Capitals scoring down, on the way to a 55-36 half time lead. Toluwase and Petkus were pouring in shots from the outside, while Adorian and Demba Kasse continued to outmuscle their smaller opponents in the paint.
The Capitals didn’t give up though, as they kept pace with their hosts in the third quarter to see the game into a 73-55 scoreline after three periods. Ibrahim Gariba was the main man for Capitals – but it was back up forward Jon Gaymond who stood out for Brixton as he collected points and rebounds as he saw extended court-time.
With the end of the season in sight, Brixton saved their best basketball for the fourth quarter as they extended the lead out to 40 points. Nathan Ashley, Horatio Kraus and Ed Saayeng all got in on the act as Brixton showed their superior quality, and the depth of their bench. Toluwase had the final say on the season with some great fast break finishes and dunks to round off a mixed year for Brixton.
