Traffic chaos looks set to return to Brixton Hill tomorrow as a gas workers again dig up the road to repair a gas leak.
Southern Gas will carry out the work at the junction of Brixton Hill, Acre Lane, Coldharbour Lane and Brixton Road, in front of Lambeth Town Hall, from 5am.
Two lanes on Acre Lane and one on Brixton Hill will be shut, and drivers will not be allowed to turn right from Acre Lane or from Brixton Hill. The restrictions will stay in place until “the leak is located and repaired.”
The work is the latest in a string of inconvenient closures at the site that have been continuing since before Christmas. Severe delays are to be expected.
Mario Constantinou, from Transport for London (TfL) apologised for the inconveniene caused by the roadworks.
He added: “TfL has worked closely with the London Borough of Lambeth in order to reduce the impact of these works on road users, local residents and businesses as far as possible.”
