Streatham MP Chuka Umunna was criticised by south Londoners last week when he backed Lambeth Council’s ill-fated decision to cancel the Lambeth Country Show, due to happen at Brockwell Park in July.
Despite Umunna saying Lambeth had his “full support” to cancel the show, and following the Brixton Blog’s comments in the Evening Standard that he had “mis-judged” public opinion, the council have announced that the show will go ahead on 15 and 16 September for 180,000 people after all.
But Harry Cole over on Guido Fawkes blog has unearthed this video from 2010, showing the shadow business secretary extolling the virtues of one of Brixton’s annual highights. In it he tells viewers: “Really this is what our area, our communities are all about.
“Whenever you’re here, in and around the summer, come down to the Lambeth Country Show,” he added. This year, despite his comments, you may still be able to.
A final decision on the proposed Lambeth Country Show will be made on 19 March. You can still sign the petition for its reinstatement by clicking on the box to the right.
