Brixton’s Ritzy cinema will, for the first time, host the Rapport Festival of Film, celebrating Black independent cinema.
From 4 to 6 April, the sixth festival promises “three days of cinematic brilliance, immersive discussions, and community celebration”.
This year’s programme of 49 films includes:
- A selection of UK and international premieres
- Powerful documentaries shedding light on untold histories and contemporary issues
- Short films showcasing emerging talent
- Conversations with filmmakers, actors, and industry leaders.
The festival is a platform for filmmakers from the African diaspora to be front and centre, say the organisers.
The festival “is a celebration of storytelling, creativity, and black cinematic excellence,” said festival director Lara Samuels.
“This year’s programme is a testament to the power of Black voices in film, and we’re thrilled to bring these stories to the heart of Brixton.”
Paul Bowman, head of film culture at Film London, said the festival is a vital platform for filmmakers and audiences from the African diaspora.
The festival is supported by Film Hub London, managed by Film London, and is part of the British Film Institute (BFI) Film Audience Network, funded by the National Lottery.
