A film charting the story of Brixton’s murals and people’s memories of them is now online, embedded below. Many of the murals in Brixton have been lost to regeneration or new developments, but some still remain. ‘If Walls Could Speak‘ tells the story of these paintings, many of them made in the aftermath of the Brixton riots and often referencing the themes of community that played a big role at the time, as well as bigger political concerns coming out of the Cold War politics of the day. The film was directed by Charlotte Bill from the Clapham Film Unit and supported by the London Mural Preservation Society among others.
