They’ve hatched!

Fans of the Brockwell Park’s waterfowl families may have noticed that three new sets of chicks arrived, along with the heatwave, last week.

The swans, blissfully ignorant of the growing rows around Brockwell live events, have produced six cygnets this year, which will be their ninth consecutive spring of successful nesting in Brockwell. Among the reeds near the swans’ nest we also spotted some tiny moorhens (black with red beaks) and, around the tree roots beside the second pond, some larger baby coots (also black, with white beaks).

Please try to keep dogs on leads around the swans, especially at this time of year, when the need to keep their babies safe can make even drawing a crowd stressful for the parents. And keep a respectful distance if watching the swans in their nest, especially if the pen (female) hisses.
