The Protect Brockwell Park campaign against large events in the park said tonight (22 May) that it would fight “on all fronts” a new certificate issued by Lambeth council allowing the Brockwell Live festivals to go ahead.

Calling for more donations, it said: “This is the final push and we are confident”.

It urged its supporters: “Please bear in mind that the people who spent their hard-earned cash on tickets did so in good faith.

“So, we hope everyone enjoys the festivals at the weekend – we’ll be dealing with Lambeth in due course – in the courts.”

The first event, Wide Awake, is due to open its gates at noon tomorrow, Friday (23 May).

Protect Brockwell Park told its supporters: “The most important thing you can do now is keep monitoring any breaches you see.”

If they see anything they think is wrong, they should report it to the event organisers and Lambeth council, the campaign said.

A Lambeth council spokesperson said earlier: “We have today approved a certificate of lawfulness for an existing use or development applied for by Summer Events Limited for events in Brockwell Park.

“People were able to comment on the application, with the opportunity to make representations during this week.

“This certificate confirms that the use of part of the park for the summer events is lawful. The events in Brockwell Park are proceeding.“The application for the new certificate of lawfulness follows the High Court ruling last week on the previous certificate which was submitted in a different context and format.”
