Order Up for Xmas!

book cover

Fans of Acre Lane’s Aries bakery will be excited to see its signature focaccia recipe included in a mouth-watering new cookbook, launched this week. Order Up! is a compilation of recipes from some of London’s most popular cafés and restaurants, whose sales will benefit hospitality workers in the UK, via the charity Hospitality Action.

The book is divided into North, South, East and West. The recipes from elsewhere in South London are mostly bakes: Brickwood’s walnut and banana bread with espresso butter, Bread Ahead’s Chelsea buns, Milk’s buckwheat pancakes and Good as Gold’s breakfast roll. The only exception to the baked goods theme is a punchy piccalilli from Lulu’s in Herne Hill. Scrumptious savouries from elsewhere in London include Tom’s Pasta’s lasagne (East), Crunch’s 1000 layer potatoes (West), and Saltine’s nettle and ricotta pie (North).

The book is a collaboration between Square – a tech company that supplies restaurants with point-of-sale and payment tools – and 20 London kitchens that use its kit. For every in-person purchase of Order Up! made in those places, 50% of the £15 price tag goes to Hospitality Action, a registered charity since 1837 which came into its own during the COVID 19 pandemic. The remaining 50% goes directly to the restaurant/cafe where you bought the book, helping readers support their favourite local eateries.

Alternatively, you can also buy direct from Square, with the whole 100% donated to Hospitality Action. Either way, every penny of the initiative supports the people and businesses within it.

So go on, nip to Aries or Lulu’s to buy your copy in person or order one online from www.orderupsquare.com. London’s best kept culinary secrets are yours for the taking!
