Herne Hill’s Jessop Primary School is celebrating after winning £1,000 in Tesco’s Stronger Starts funding initiative.
Thanks to support from the local community, the school secured second place in a public vote.
The result means the school’s Outside Space and Biodiversity project can begin to transform its playground into a nature-filled learning environment.
New plants and greenery will create opportunities for pupils to explore wildlife and connect with nature.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the community’s support,” said head of school Kenneth Baffoe.
“This project is about more than just a playground; it’s about creating a space where our children can thrive, connect with nature, and build a brighter future.”
“We encourage our customers to use their blue tokens to vote in our stores for local projects that they feel will support children and young people,” said Claire De Silva, head of community at Tesco. The grant would have a fantastic impact of the school, she added.
