Chris French, founder of Lambeth Links, the LGBTQIA+ community forum for the borough, is stepping down as chair.

His successor, Christopher Wellbelove, said that, thanks to Chris’s leadership, “Lambeth Links is no longer just an idea, it’s a living, growing organisation with huge potential.”

Chris French, who has been a well known and integral part of Lambeth’s LGBTQ+ community for many years, founded Lambeth Links in 2021 with a bold vision: to create a space where LGBTQIA+ people in Lambeth could organise, advocate and celebrate together.

Under his leadership, the charity secured its first major funding, built strong relationships with local services, and positioned itself as a vital voice for the borough’s diverse LGBTQIA+ communities.

“Chris French’s dedication, energy and heart have built something extraordinary,” said incoming chair Christopher Wellbelove.

“Thanks to his leadership, Lambeth Links is no longer just an idea, it’s a living, growing organisation with huge potential. I’m honoured to follow in his footsteps and help lead the next chapter.”

Christopher Wellbelove brings more than 20 years’ experience in civic leadership, governance and campaigning, including 16 years as a Lambeth councillor and two terms as mayor.

He currently serves as Representative Deputy Lieutenant for Lambeth on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant of Greater London.

The Greater London Lieutenancy supports the King and the Royal Family in London, and connects individuals, organisations and social networks to enhance Londoners’ sense of belonging and increase social inclusion.

An outspoken advocate for LGBTQIA+ rights and mental health, Christopher Wellbelove brings lived experience, strategic leadership and deep community roots to his role as chair of Lambeth Links as it enters an exciting new phase.

Supported by multi-year grant funding, it promises a renewed commitment to championing equity, visibility and support for LGBTQIA+ people across the borough.

As chair, Christopher Wellbelove will work with trustees, staff and partners to strengthen the charity’s voice, reach and impact.

“I founded Lambeth Links to create a space where our community could connect, be heard and shape change locally,” said Chris French.

“Securing the funding that will allow it to grow into its next phase feels like the right milestone to hand over to new leadership.

“I’m deeply grateful to our board (past and present), team and volunteers for their passion and care, and I know Christopher will lead with the same heart and energy that have defined Lambeth Links from the very beginning, as it continues to grow into its next phase.”
