Professionals representing a range of industries – from healthcare and construction to digital media and public services – gave students at Brixton’s Evelyn Grace Academy an opportunity to discuss career paths with people who are already travelling them.
The event was supported by a number of community leaders including local MP Helen Hayes, and Lambeth council cabinet members Ben Kind and Donatus Anyanwu.
Students prepared with tailored booklets to identify interests, plan visits to stall holders, and write draw up meaningful questions.
“Whether they had a dream job in mind or were simply curious about possibilities, everyone was encouraged to explore new sectors and think about the qualifications, skills, and experiences needed to pursue various roles,” said the school.
Students moved between stalls speaking to employers and gaining insights into different professions.
After the event, they were guided through next steps including researching job options, exploring college courses, and speaking with a careers adviser.
“With a strong emphasis on goal-setting and self-reflection, the fair not only offered inspiration but also helped students take practical steps toward shaping their future careers,” said the school.
“It was a truly empowering day, encouraging students to be the voice of their own futures.”
