A charity that campaigns to end female genital cutting is organising a sponsored bike ride.

Orchid Project, which is based in Vauxhall, is raising money to support their work protecting human rights of women around the world.

Recent figures from Equality Now show that female genital cutting affects around 1 in 30 females in Lambeth.

The bike ride will take place on Sunday September 20 and will start and end in Kennington.

The route will pass locations in London that commerate “profound social change”, including the Ragged School Museum, suffragette Emmeline Pankurst’s grave, Parliament Square and Clapham Common, where William Wilberforce and other campaigners began the movement to end slavery.

There’s a 45 mile route for experienced cyclists and a 30 mile route for intermediates and beginners looking to test themselves.
