Camberwell Arts kicks off its week-long festival tomorrow (14 June) with a free family event on Camberwell Green.

Running from 11am to 5pm, the launch party will include an art market, workshops, a free treasure hunt, free music, an arty dog show and afternoon tea.

Born in 1994, the festival will see local artists welcome visitors to their open studios and a series of free exhibitions, events and workshops.

The festival runs across more than 20 venues until Sunday 22 June and, say the organisers, offers everyone an opportunity to take part in the arts.

Sunshine International Arts’ studio in Loughborough Junction (Studio 5, 209A Coldharbour Lane, SW9 8RU) Presents A Peek Into The Engine Room Of Carnival on Saturday 14 June from midday to 6pm – experience the heart of carnival costume-making first hand and learn about the history of Caribbean carnival, rooted in the resilience and creativity that emerged after the abolition of slavery

Public art installations created by local school pupils and the opportunity to try your hand at the festival’s interactive easels with the resulting art displayed at the Alley Gallery are among the festival highlights.

The festival fringe includes an art run, daily events at Dash the Henge music store (348 Camberwell New Road, SE5 0RW), and Camberwell Mapping – designer Jingyi Tong’s exhibition which uses a recycled street cart as a mobile display.
