The annual general meeting of the Brockwell Lido Users Committee (BLSC) takes place tomorrow (16 November) at the lido.
The committee has representatives of organisations with an interest in the lido, including Brockwell Park Community Partners, Friends of Brockwell Park and Brockwell Lido Users Group, as well as Fusion Lifestyle, the organisation that runs the lido which it leases from Lambeth council.
Among concerns that are expected to be expressed at the meeting are what users say is a continuing and worsening poor level of maintenance of the pool and gym.
There is also concern that Fusion Lifestyle – whose lease on the lido is due to run until 2032 – has not submitted accounts to the official Companies House since those for the year ending 31 December 2022.
An official “accounts overdue” warning appears on Fusion Lifestyle’s Companies House entry. It shows that its accounts are now almost a year late – having been due on 31 December 2024.
At its meeting in August this year, the Brockwell Lido Users Committee discussed its already stated view that Fusion has underinvested at the lido.
At the 2023 AGM, senior Lambeth councillors responded to disquiet about the state of the lido by discussing taking it back into full council control.
The council took back eight leisure centres from the Better group to form Active Lambeth in April 2023.
However, the Brockwell Lido Users Committee fears that the need for significant investment in the fabric of the building and the filtration system for the pool might be a disincentive for the council making such a move for the lido, given the intense pressure on its spending.
The annual general meeting of the Brockwell Lido Users Committee begins at 10am tomorrow at the lido.
