Brixton People’s Kitchen has a new home

Brixton People’s Kitchen (BPK) has been dishing up good food to the Lambeth community in carparks, schools, and parks since its founding in 2011.

After losing its previous premises in 2021, followed by years of determination and planning, BPK was finally able to launch the opening of its new permanent home on Lambeth Walk on Saturday (4 October).

The event saw a free BBQ lunch, drumming from Henri Gaobi with two students from his Brixton class, and a clown with circus gear keeping children entertained in the playground opposite.

The new café and community hub has found its home at 139 Lambeth Walk, SE11 6EE. The new space will continue BPK’s mission to:

  • Provide healthy, affordable meals to local residents;
  • Run community cooking workshops, kids’ clubs and wellbeing activities;
  • Offer volunteering and employment opportunities to young people, disable people, and anyone looking to build skills and confidence; and
  • Serve as a hub for connection, joy, and creativity.

The cafe has already hosted events such as Roots and Recipes: Exploring the Legacy of Colonialism Through Food in collaboration with University College London, and there are free half-term kids’ clubs coming up at the end of October. Check out their Instagram for updates.

BPK’s sister charity, Be Enriched, will be parking their Food Float outside the café on a weekly basis. This will provide an opportunity for local residents to access fresh, affordable food right on their doorsteps.
