Brixton Chamber Orchestra music trail in Ruskin Park

Brixton Chamber Orchestra is bringing its Music Trail to Ruskin Park on Sunday 25 May.

Building on the success of last year’s trail in Brockwell Park, the free, family-friendly event invites audiences of all ages to experience the park in a completely new way by turning it into a playful, interactive journey of hidden live music.

Participants will get a map and are invited to search for hidden musicians scattered throughout the park.

Each time they find an instrumentalist, participants can note down what they find and where they find it.

Each location will convey a clue, and all the clues together will reveal the location for the orchestral grand finalé!

The event culminates in an orchestral performance where all the musicians will come together at an undisclosed location in Ruskin Park.

Timetable

  • 4–4.15 pm – Arrive at Ruskin Park, Herne Hill Road entrance, for map and briefing
  • 4.15–5.30 pm – Explore the park and discover BCO’s hidden musicians
  • 6–7pm – Finale – an orchestral concert at a secret location

“The music trail is a gamified orchestral concert which we hope will appeal to all sorts of people who might not usually go to classical performances,” said Matthew O’Keeffe, artistic director and conductor of the orchestra.

“It simultaneously encourages people to have a nice walk around a park, maybe discovering new nooks and crannies of their local green space.

“Last year’s Trail in Brockwell Park was amazing and really well attended. People said they loved it, so we had to roll it out again this spring, after some format-tweaking.

“We’ve got some incredibly exciting plans for the orchestral finale concert too.”
