More than 1,000 people voted in the ballot for the best work at the seventh Brixton Blog and Bugle art show which closed with its award ceremony in Brixton library last night (24 July).

Show organiser and Bugle arts editor Leslie Manasseh thanked sponsors Squire and partners, Brockwell Art Services, Brixton Brewery and Clover’s, as well as the library’s Rosella Black and other staff and Bugle editor Alan Slingsby for their work.

He also thanked all the artists who had made an otherwise impossible show possible by volunteering to watch over the works on show while the library was open.

He said that while five works had been chosen by the popular vote, every entry had received substantial support – making everyone a winner.

Tim Gledstone of Squire and partners presented prizes to the winner and four runners-up …

Valentina Florez Vasquez’s Brixton Village Women (acrylic paint and colouring pencil on paper) topped the poll and she will be invited to Squires’ workshops to see her name engraved on the unique (and playable) bugle trophy that is the winner’s prize.
