Brixton Street Wear founders Daniel O’Connell and Pete Adams last night (23 January) celebrated an end to their legal battle with the California-based “lifestyle brand” Brixton.

The US company had tried to stop Brixton Street Wear, based in Brixton Village, from using the name “Brixton” – causing outrage and derision.

The “gathering of gratitude” to thank local supporters heard music from Jumpin’ Jack Frost and Ray Keith, with drinks from Brixton Brewery, Rum Stripe and Lost Sheep Coffee.

“As you know, the last six months have had some challenges and, without you, we may not even be here. So we want to thank you in the only way we know how. You’re invited to ‘the uprising’ (a coming together of a community and becoming victorious,” said the invitation to the event.

A small change to the Brixton Street Wear logo settled the legal dispute and the enterprise – which donates its profits to local charities – can now trade freely again.

gofundme campaign to raise money for the legal response to the US company has raised more than £10,000.

“Hopefully we can get bigger, help more community projects and show other brands it doesn’t all have to be profit,” said Pete. “If we all do 1% good, the world will be a lot better.”
