Another Cressingham Gardens roof blown off

Lambeth council contractors were this afternoon clearing up after the roof was blown off a home in Cressingham Gardens.

It ended up in a walkway between homes.

The latest such structural failure comes a year after other buildings on the estate also lost their roofs in high winds.

Lambeth council recently launched another consultation on the fate of Cressingham Gardens following publication of the Kerslake review, which it commissioned.

The review was highly critical of the plans of the council to demolish and rebuild Cressingham Gardens and other estates and also of its relations with their residents.

The Save Cressingham Gardens campaign said this afternoon: “The repeated blowing off of roofs despite acknowledgement by Lambeth 10 years ago that they needed replacing is a clear pattern of negligence.”

A council spokesperson said: “Following high winds this morning the roof on a block at the Cressingham Gardens Estate has been damaged.

“Council officers are on site offering support to residents and assessing damage.

“Scaffolding is being erected as a matter of urgency to make the properties safe and so repairs can take place.

“We are also arranging temporary accommodation for residents affected while this work takes place.

“We will continue giving residents all the support we can while these repairs are carried out.”

Neighbours said that children were in the home when the roof came off. It ended up in a walkway between homes.

  1. Lambeth are such liars. That roof blew off a family members home and so far they are passing her from pillar to post with no offer of emergency accomodation even though she has 3 young children.
