Brixton Art Prize

Not to be confused with our very own summer art show, the Brixton Art Prize was launched this year by Adrian Flower – a well known figure on the local art scene – as a global art competition.

The theme of the show is “Conflict and Integration” as these issues are relevant to Brixton’s culture and history.

The aim is to encourage conversations about art by and within the Brixton community and to showcase a diverse range of techniques and media.

The competition was open to artists from across the world and attracted over 700 applications.

Shortlisted works – including the winners – will be on show in ‘Downstairs’ at Department Store, 248 Ferndale Road SW9 8FR from 1 – 3 July.

Adrian has chosen a topical theme and the show will be an interesting insight into how “conflict and integration” are seen and understood by artists across the world and how art can shine a light on major issues of the day.

Any profits from the show will go to locally based arts groups.
