Deep in the English countryside? No … our picture above was taken this morning in the Wyck forest garden community orchard on the corner of Barrington Road and Millbrook Road in the heart of Brixton.

On Sunday (24 October) it’s where you will find an Apple Day celebration from noon to 5pm.

There will be apple pressing; workshops on how to make eco-friendly insulating moss tiles (adults 1–2pm and children 2–3pm); bulb planting; and childrens’ activities, including apple peeling, fabric painting and a wishing tree.

Food and drink will be free and by donation – there will be a hearty stew and warm bread made by Brazilian chef Marcello from Laricas vegan food, hot spiced apple and apple kombucha made by Heather from Fermenting Joy, as well a big range of homemade cakes.

Organisers are warning visitors come prepared for the elements as wind and rain are forecast – “perfect for a day out in the orchard!”
