Brixton ‘Take your Gran for a Can’ fundraiser for Age UK Lambeth

Brixton Brewery is hosting a four-day celebration in its taproom on Brixton Station Road and anyone bringing along a drinking buddy aged 60 or over will get a free beer.

In exchange for a can of its limited-edition Generation Pale Ale, the brewery is asking that all attendees donate to Age UK Lambeth, which has seen a 233% increase in demand of for its services over the past 12 months.

The beer and its fundraising campaign for Age UK Lambeth was launched in May.

Visit the Brixton Brewery’s taproom Road from 5pm on Thursday 29 July to Sunday 1 August to take part.

And if you don’t have any suitable friends or relatives over 60, Age UK Lambeth and the brewery can help.

They will team up to match a friendly member Age UK Lambeth member with you.

On the Thursday they will be your ticket to free beer and music, courtesy of over 60s shape-thrower DJ Shadow Sister.

If you can’t make Thursday, Brixton Brewery will keep its taproom doors open and free beer cold by continuing its ‘Take your Gran for a Can’ offer until Sunday.

Book a ticket and, if necessary, a free 30-minute slot with one of Age UK Lambeth’s members at the booking site set up for the occasion.

The post-lockdown event is in aid of Age UK Lambeth, which has seen a huge increase in demand for its services in the past year.

This includes its MYneighbours scheme that pairs elderly members with younger volunteers who regularly call and visit them and also bring hot meals.

The organisation estimates that there have been more than 10,000 hours of calls made between these pairs – around 416 days’ worth of nattering on the phone.

To purchase Generation Pale Ale in aid of Age UK Lambeth tp consume at home, visit Brixton Brewery’s website. It costs £2.65 a can, 6-pack £15, 12-pack £28, and 24-pack £48 – and £4.50 a pint at the taproom.
