With a month’s worth of rain due to fall today (18 June), it may not be the best time to announce a season of open-air films in Brockwell Park.

But The Luna Cinema is doing just that, asking, “what better place to watch a film on a summer’s evening?”

Luna is the largest producer of outdoor cinema in the UK and will be hosting over 175 screenings at more than 50 locations this year.

The first Luna Cinema showing was of Some Like It Hot at Dulwich Park in 2008.

Four films, in partnership with American Express, will be shown in Brockwell Park on these dates:

  • Thursday 1 July: Knives Out
  • Friday 2 July: Pretty Woman
  • Saturday 3 July: Grease
  • Sunday 4 July: Black Panther

Adult prices start at £16 including booking fees. Tickets are available from thelunacinema.com.

You can upgrade a general admission ticket to one with the use of a Luna director’s chair.

A Luna Luxe ticket enables two people to watch the film from luxury sofa seating with blankets, heaters, a hamper of food, a bottle of bubbles and a mini-cup of Häagen-Dazs ice cream.

The Luna Bar with Italian beer Moretti will have alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and hot food will be available.

Audiences can bring a picnic, but bringing alcohol is “restricted”. Both food and drink will be available through a “click and collect” service.

George Wood, founder of The Luna Cinema, said “There could hardly be a more anticipated summer than this 2021 post-lockdown season; every outing we arrange is set to feel special and unique after so long away from the people and activities we love.

“Cinema has provided the magic of escape through the decades, and we know that The Luna Cinema can bring joy and respite to the lives of movie-goers across the country this summer, more than ever before.

“After so many months spent watching films at home, we are delighted to be inviting the people to return to the big screen, with our brand of socially spacious, open-air cinema experiences, including Brockwell Park.”
