All Picturehouse cinemas, including Brixton’s Ritzy, are to reopen on Wednesday 19 May.

New releases to be screened will include Oscar and BAFTA winners Judas And The Black Messiah, featuring Daniel Kaluuya’s trophy-winning performance, and Sound Of Metal starring Riz Ahmed.

Also screening will be Pedro Almodóvar’s latest, The Human Voice, starring Tilda Swinton, followed by a recorded Q&A with the acclaimed filmmaker.

And there will be the usual blockbuster candidates like Godzilla vs Kong.

Cafes and bars will also reopen. Restaurants will have staggered reopenings through May and June.

New safety measures include:

  • A social distancing plan for each cinema
  • Staggered start times for screenings to allow for safe entry and exit
  • Allocated seating to ensure a safe distance between different households
  • Hand sanitiser stations
  • Enhanced cleaning by trained teams.
  • Staff will be provided with face coverings or visors as part of their uniform and receive Covid-19 training.

In line with government guidelines, all customers must wear a face covering in Picturehouse cinemas, only removing them to eat and drink in cafes, bars and screens.

Protective screens have been added to kiosk areas where socialdistancing cannot be maintained and contactless payments wil be encouraged.

Picturehouse said it would monitor and adapt to the new situation as necessary and continue to follow government advice.
