An independent film producer is looking for customers of local shops to take part in short films to explain what makes them special.

The three 30-second films will by hosted by Guardian Online.

Their message will be that independent retailers bring important economic value and personality to their locality, as well as being the heartbeat of a community.

“We want to encourage viewers to build up a habit of shopping on their local high street, rather than just visiting it as a one-off for gifts,” said documentary producer Laura Smith, a former Brixton resident.

Films will be from the perspective of the customer. People selected to take part will receive a fee for their time and the shop will also gain a location fee, as well as a film that will promote their story through the Guardian Online and its social media.

Interviews are due to take place towards the end of September and all filming will be under strict Covid filming regulations.
