Wilson Porras, owner of the family-run Jalisco restaurant in Brixton Village, is to run in a 10-kilometre event to support the Brixton-based charity Compliments of the House.

Before lockdown the charity collected surplus food that could be collected by people in need.

Now, because its distribution hubs and many of its donor businesses are closed because of government guidelines, it also buys food and delivers it to vulnerable people.

Compliments of the House is also taking referrals from local organisations, including the social services, community groups and other charities which are also supporting people in need.

The charity tailors each food and toiletries package to suit its guests’ nutritional needs and religious requirements – even including pet food if required.

From Jalisco, Wilson, wife Carolina and mother Marlene offer Venezuelan warmth and hospitality to South London, where they have lived for nearly 20 years.

You can support Wilson and Compliments of the House by a donation through his JustGiving page.

He is running his 10 kilometres in Richmond Park on 3 October.
