Album of the week: Rapture by Koffee

Each week our music editor Dave Randall picks an album (with a local connection) you need to hear …

Rapture by Koffee

Next weekend would have been Glastonbury. After last year’s festival I wrote in the Brixton Bugle about the significance of the spectacular South London takeover of the Pyramid stage on Friday night courtesy of Stormzy.

I also mentioned another personal highlight which was a performance by the Jamaican reggae artist Koffee who got the whole of the Park stage bouncing despite soaring afternoon temperatures.

Mikayla “Koffee” Simpson initially drew attention with an acoustic tribute to Usain Bolt.

On her debut EP Rapture, released last year, she effortlessly navigates between reggae and dancehall and delivers some irresistible hooks.

Rapture won the Grammy for best reggae album, making Koffee the youngest person and only woman to win the award.
