Double Bass player Lance Rose
What do you do and where do you do it?

I’m a double bass player. I’ve been gigging in and around London for the last 15 years. I play with various bands. I play mainly jazz, but I also play blues and reggae.

Favourite memories of playing in Brixton?

Got loads of good memories of playing in Brixton. I’ve been playing every Thursday at The Effra Hall Tavern for the past nine years. If you haven’t been there you should go. It’s the best kept secret in London. And it’s free!

What are you listening to at the moment?

Currently listening to an Art Blakey album called Roots and Herbs.

Favourite album of all time and why?

My favourite albums are the first three albums Jazz Jamaica did. They introduced me to jazz music and made me want to explore the genre more. I don’t know if those albums are accessible right now as they were released on a Japanese label. The first album is called Skaravan.

Where can we hear you next?

I’m at the Effra every Wednesday with Errol Linton’s blues band and every Thursday with Jamaican Jazz.
