Boxer Vivien Parsons from Brixton’s Afewee club became a three-weight champion when she triumphed in the Junior A 63 kilo category at the prestigious Female Box Cup at the weekend (7 December).

She beat opponents from Ireland and the Netherlands to secure gold during the two-day female-only event in Guilford’s Spectrum leisure centre.

The week before she had won the longstanding National Association of Girls and Boys Clubs’ title at 60 kilos, beating a strong English opponent.

Her latest victory gave her titles in three different weight classes after just 11 contests and confirms her as one of the best girls in her weight across the country.

Afewee boxing head coach Bobby Miltiadous said: “Vivien is a clear example of what hard work and commitment can bring. She trains five to six days a week, regardless of her schedule, and always makes time for what needs to be done.

“Above all else, her mental attitude is what separates her, as she is very focused on boxing and getting better every week, we are all very proud.”

Afewee recently launched new female-only sessions for 11–16-year-olds in the GB non-contact boxing awards programme – every Saturday from 9 to 10am at the club’s gym in Brixton Rec.
