A star of London’s West End has opened a Make Believe performing arts school in Brixton, teaching singing, dancing and acting classes to children aged 3-18.

Alicia Mencía – who is performing in ‘On Your Feet!’ at the London Coliseum – and her partner Jon Lartey will run the school, which is part of a UK international theatre school group.

Make Believe Brixton will run a weekly three-hour class on Saturdays at 10am at Evelyn Grace Academy. Parents with children aged 3-5 can opt to enrol their children into a 90-minute junior class held on Saturdays at 10am.

Make Believe was created to make performing arts accessible to as many young people in all communities; juniors and seniors fees are £75 per month for 3 hours a per week, and infants £44.50 per month for 1.5 hours per week.

Mencía, of Make Believe Brixton, said: “As a performer, I feel incredibly excited and privileged to bring Make Believe to Brixton and share my passion and experiences. As well as being a lot of fun, the performing arts help build inner confidence and self-belief – skills that are essential as children grow up and I’m delighted to be able to make a difference.”
