Snow-Camp, a charity combining snow sports, life skills and vocational opportunities has been awarded a three-year grant of £100,000 from BBC Children in Need.

Brixton youth can swap their skateboard for a snowboard and make their first snowtracks during the summer holidays.

The new funding will enable 150 young Londoners to take part in Snow-Camp’s programmes starting this summer.

Young people will be able to experience snow sports for the first time; starting with a two-day introduction to skiing and snowboarding through to training them to be Level 1 Snowsport England instructors.

From Brixton to black runs, Snow-Camp is looking for the next generation of ski and snow boarding instructors.

Stacey Pender, a former Snow-Camp participant from Brixton did just that. She said: “Growing up in Brixton I never imagined I would have a career in snow sports. Where I’m from you just don’t think it’s even an option. Snow–Camp has made that happen for me. It’s great that more inner-city youth will have the opportunity to get a career in snow sports. Everyone should have an après-ski story.

The charity are now looking for local youth organisations to get involved with the first stage of their three step programme, First Tracks, which will take place in the school summer holidays at the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead.
