Brixton Pound Café needs one last push to hit crowdfunder target

Brixton Pound fundraising team at County Hall

Brixton Pound Café has almost hit its crowdfunding target thanks to a flurry of donations from cafe customers and several large pledges.

The deadline is 10 September and if Brixton Pound doesn’t hit the target, they don’t receive any of the funds.

Latest donors include Squire and Partners who pledged £500, joining other local businessesBrixton Brewery, Diverse, Brixton Therapy Centre and Marsh and Parsons in supporting the campaign.

Brixton Pound Café had a major boost when London Mayor Sadiq Khan pledged £4,000 to the campaign, after a pitch by the Pound team at County Hall. The Café was shortlisted along with 24 other crowdfunding community projects.

A spokesperson said: “Out of all the projects working with the Mayor’s Crowdfund London programme, ours has been one of the most popular, with over 160 individual pledges. So if you’re not one of them, then now is the time to join the crowd!

A successful crowdfund will enable us to improve every element of our cafe and give us more capacity to fulfil its objectives of a useful community space in the town centre.

The fundraising effort now stands at  £11,604 out of £12,333. That’s £729 pound left to raise in the next 6 days. So dig deep Brixton.
