Uber driver jailed over sex assault on Brixton passenger

An Uber driver who sexually assaulted a woman who booked him from Brixton Tube station was today (20 January) sentenced to 18 months in jail. Aliriza Kurt, 42, of Blackstock Road, Finsbury Park, had been convicted of sexual assault on 6 January at Inner London Crown Court.

He is also the subject of a sexual harm prevention order for an indefinite period with the following conditions:

  • Not to have females in any vehicle driven by him (except family).
  • Not to apply to be or act as a public hire driver in England and Wales.

Kurt’s vehicle has been seized and he must sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

Kurt, working for Uber, was allocated a fare at around 23:15hrs on 8 May 2015.

The passenger, a 24-year-old woman, got into the car at Brixton Underground Station. During the journey, Kurt leaned across and touched her, saying: “Are you comfortable with this?”

The victim escaped the vehicle before calling police.

Kurt was arrested in the early hours of the following day by officers of the Metropolitan Police Cab Enforcement Unit.
