Your guide to what’s happening in Brixton this week
Tuesday: Scratch That Brixton will be on every third Thursday of the month at the Ritzy. It offers a platform to musicians, spoken word artists, playwrights, performers, filmmakers, comedians and more. The night consists of 7 – 8 acts trying out new work in development to an open and friendly audience who can offer anonymous written feedback. Want to get involved?? Thursday 22 October: Italy Heart Africa is an evening of dance, drama, performances and more at Portico Gallery, West Norwood, to fundraise for a charity that helps rescue migrants in the Mediterranean. Featuring rising beat box/rap stars Maverick & Malachi, urban funk style dancers, an art auction and more. 7 pm to 10 pm. Entry £10, £5 for under 16s.
Thursday: The Free University of London (FUL) is opening its doors for the first time in Angell Town Estate, Brixton, with its first lecture series, which will be on every Thursday (except for noted exceptions) from 6 pm to 7.30 pm in the Angell Delight Community Program Unit 2.
Saturday 24: six piece trip-hop act Bombs perform at Hootananny. They are supported by Tell Tale Tusk, Simpson and Desert Island Disco DJs. 9 pm to 3 am. Free entry before 10 pm, £4 after.
Saturday: Its Your Local Market at the Angell Town estate. It hosts and promotes locally sourced materials, renewable energy and sustainable food for those living and visiting Lambeth. 11 am to 4 pm.
