Have your say on the plans for Brixton Market

Brixton MarketFuture Brixton is holding a series of events so residents and traders can get involved with the plans for Brixton’s street markets.

As part of the Mayor of London’s High Street Fund, £869,000 was given to invest in Brixton and Lambeth council put in a further £390,000.

The plans involve refurbishing the toilets on Pope’s Road and major works on Electric Avenue, such as improvements to the entrances and changing the market’s layout.

The work will supposedly be completed by March 2016.

Future Brixton says: “We want to widen involvement to include more of Brixton’s street traders, shop owners and residents, so that they can help decide the plans for the area.”

The upcoming events are:

June 5 & 6: market stalls on Electric Avenue and Brixton Station Road, open to all, to come and discuss the project

June 6: “walkshop” sessions to discuss the plans while touring the markets.

June 9:  a workshop in the evening with local residents from 6.30 – 8.30pm at Lambeth Town Hall.

June 10: attendance at the Brixton Market Traders Federation Annual General Meeting (traders only)

June 11 & 12: focus groups with shoppers

June 23: workshop, open to all, to discuss draft plans to re-design the market streets.
