The special edition B£5 will be launched at Windrush Square on Wednesday July 8 from 5 to 10 pm.

At the event people will be able to be the first to see the new design, get their hands on the note and there will be a free “give and take market” made up of donated items.

Brixton Pound says the note with its “striking and magical” new illustration “can be kept in your pocket, in a frame or used in any of the 300+ shops in Brixton which accept the currency.”

The B£ aims to support the local economy by keeping money in Brixton and encouraging people to shop at independent businesses.

Previous notes have featured local heroes, such as Vincent van Gogh, Luol Deng and David Bowie, as well as symbolic landmarks and street art.
