Fat White Family and Alabama 3 headline Brixton Fightback gig

A special gig at Electric Brixton is happening on 11th June to raise funds for local housing campaigners struggling to keep their homes. Brixton bands Fat White Family and Alabama 3 are headlining, with support from Misty Miller, Lara Lee and Potent Whisper. This is gonna be big.

Lara Lee releases anti-gentrification song with Potent Whisper

Not only is she performing at Brixton Fightback, The Voice finalist Lara Lee also released an anti-gentrification music video with Potent Whisper to protest rising rents, regeneration schemes and social housing evictions. The video was shot at the Reclaim Brixton protests in April – check it out below.

Local punk collective organise HIV/AIDS charity festival

The South London Punk Collective is the brainchild of local punk guitarist John Youens and he’s on a mission to bring live punk back to South London – check out our interview with him elsewhere on the blog. They’re organising a punk festival to raise money for AIDS charities on 11th July at the New Cross Inn.

Oxjam Brixton 2015 is in search of volunteers and bands

Childhood get new bassist – and he’s French

Important local music trivia coming up: Brixton-based psychedelic rock band Childhood have a new bassist. According to their Facebook page Thomas Tomaski was born on 24th April, is French and likes to shout at roasted peanuts.

Of Monsters and Men to play two dates at Brixton Academy

Folk-pop giants Of Monsters and Men have announced two dates at Brixton Academy in November as part of their UK tour. The Icelandic five-piece are set to release their second studio album Beneath the Skin on 9 June 2015.

The Big Noise Festival returns to Lambeth

Hop on the bus to Elephant and Castle for The Big Noise Festival, a one-day music and arts festival tackling homelessness taking place on Saturday 13 June at the Coronet Theatre SE1. Headline acts include DJ Yoda, Slamboree and Scratch Perverts.

Spanish quintet to launch album in Brixton
