Lambeth Council helps out The Gunman

If you plan to watch Sean Penn’s new film, The Gunman, which opens this Friday, March 20, look out for the cemetery scene.

The Lambeth Council’s cemetery management team helped enable this scene by digging the grave, dressing it with green matting and laying out wooden planks for the pallbearers. It was the biggest shoot to date for the Lambeth team. The location is Streatham Cemetery, in Tooting SW17, and the scene features Sean Penn himself, a priest, a pallbearer and 30 extras.

“A lot of planning goes in to organising a film shoot around the cemetery’s everyday business”, said Cllr Jane Edbrooke, Lambeth Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, and continued, “Being respectful is the key requirement for us, at all times. The team managed the shoot around a real funeral happening that day, making sure the crew wouldn’t disrupt anything.”

“Sean Penn was very handsome in real life”, and the film crew “polite and friendly”, the Lambeth cemetery team is reported to have noted.
