Britain’s oldest competing triathlete launches Silver Tuesdays

A top British triathlete was among a host of special guests who launched new fitness sessions for over 45s in Lambeth this week. Eddie Brocklesby, Britain’s oldest competing triathlete and a super-fit 71-year-old retired social worker, paid a visit to Brockwell Park to launch Silver Tuesdays.

Older residents of Brixton and other parts of Lambeth are being encouraged to join the sessions run by the fitness charity Silverfit. Nordic walking and pilates will be among a range of activities on offer as part of a fitness programme backed by Comic Relief and Lambeth Council. The sessions, which will run every Tuesday from 2pm at Brockwell Park, will also include Walking Football led by a top coach from Millwall FC.

Commenting on the launch of the sessions Eddie who is the founder of Silverfit said: “I only started running in my fifties and since then I’ve competed in four Ironman races. My grandson called me a mad granny for doing them! Keeping active and healthy is so important whether you’re young or older. We want to encourage more people to maintain their fitness as they grow older”.

Silverfit’s exercise drives have proved to be quite popular in other parts of the Capital. Burgess Park sessions run by the charity have been attended more than 100 people.
