Shelter in Brockwell Park burned down in suspected arson

A police investigation is under way after the pavilion behind Brockwell Park’s tennis courts burned down.

Brockwell Park Community Partners said they believed the incident had been carried out “by one or more arsonists.” The area is currently taped off and police are gathering evidence.

In a statement online, Brockwell Park Community Partners said: “We are saddened by this revolting attack on a public park facility.”

The Metropolitan Police said: “We can confirm we received report that a bandstand in Brockwell Park, Dulwich Road, burned down in the early hours of Wednesday, 14 January.

“It is believed that the fire was started deliberately. No arrests have been made at this stage.”

They ask that anyone who may have information or who may have witnessed the incident should call 101 or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
