Lambeth College staff went on indefinite strike this morning after failing to come to an agreement with college management. However, the striking members of the University and College Union (UCU) say they are now considering a revised proposal presented by the college.

Today’s walkout is the latest in the ongoing dispute over new contracts introduced by the college. Staff have already been on strike for five days this year, there were six days of action in December and five weeks during the summer.

At 4pm on Wednesday UCU members at the college will vote on Lambeth College’s new proposals. The college has amended its offer to ensure no current staff will be forced on to the new contracts, even if they request a change in their working hours. There have also been improvements made to sick pay.

If they accept the new terms, staff will return to work on Thursday.

UCU regional official, Una O’Brien, said: “We are pleased that there have been further improvements and we are recommending that members vote to accept the new deal when they meet on Wednesday.”
