Pupils from a Brixton school will battle for the chance to be crowned champions of the first ever NBA Junior Basketball League tournament in England. Evelyn Grace Academy will take on three London-based school teams at a special event in the Capital later on today.

The Academy’s young athletes will represent the Miami Heat, a team renowned for honing the phenomenal talents of NBA and Brixtonite hero Luol Deng.

“It’s so important we get kids in competitions like this at a young age so I want to thank the NBA and Basketball England for organising this newly formed league”, said Deng who is the founder of a basketball school of excellence backed by the NBA.

“It will make such a big difference to developing the game of basketball in the UK. Good luck to Evelyn Grace Academy. I know how hard they have all been working to I want to congratulate them on their progress so far.”

Lucky winners of the tournament will receive an award from the legendary NBA icon Dikembe Mutumbo. Contest victors will be hosted at an official dinner with basketball icons ahead of an NBA Global Games London event at the O2.
