Brixton Foodbank Collection at Tesco

Christmas is coming and it’s a time of excitement and pleasure for most people but for some it brings extra expense and difficulties in all already fraught lives. Some of these people are supported all year round by Brixton and Norwood Foodbank and some will need extra help this year as issues with benefits and employment intensify in the area.

The Trussell Trust who are the charity who supports the Foodbank are teaming up with Tesco for the weekend between the 27-29th November to help collect for Christmas. You can donate in store and Tesco will give a 30% cash donation on top of what is raised this weekend. Don’t worry if Tesco isn’t your shop of choice. You can buy elsewhere and still donate there.

The Brixton Foodbank is always keen to receive tinned and non perishable items as detailed here but at Christmas, they aim to add a little cheer to people’s lives. Advent calendars for the kids are a great donation as well as stocking fillers such as chocolates or sweets. You can also give foods such as tinned meat and fish, mince pies, Christmas puddings and other traditional treats. Gluten free and dairy free options are gratefully received too. These items will go to make up Christmas hampers for some of the poorest people in Lambeth.

If your own budget is tight and you’d prefer to help in other ways, you can still sign up to volunteer at the Tesco collection point or at the Norwood warehouse. The Foodbank needs help all year round, especially drivers and all help goes a long way!
