Unconcious woman rescued from Stockwell blaze

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued an unconscious woman from a fire at a flat above shops on Clapham Road in Stockwell on Monday.

The woman, who was breathing, was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by air ambulance doctors before being taken to hospital.

Around half of a four-room flat on the second floor was damaged by fire.

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters from Deptford, Peckham, Old Kent Road and Orpington fire stations attended the incident.

The Brigade was called at 6.47pm and the fire was under control by 8.16pm. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
