Two men have been arrested after a vicious assault in Brixton Road left a man fighting for his life on Sunday.
The 21-year-old victim was attacked near to McDonalds at about 11.50pm, and is still in a critical condition with serious head injuries following the attack.
A 20-year-old man was later arrested in Croydon on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH). A second man, 22, was arrested in Tower Hamlets suspected of the same offence. They are both still in a police station in south London.
One woman who saw the incident said a group of men rushed passed her and her friends on Brixton Road, spilling her drink, before attacking a man close to the fast food restaurant.
A police cordon remained in place near the scene, outside the estate agents Foxtons, yesterday.
DS Ewan Robertson, of Trident’s South Reactive Team, said: “Brixton Road was extremely busy with traffic and pedestrians. It is believed that this incident would have been witnessed by a large number of people. I am appealing for witnesses who may have been present at the time the incident took place to contact police.
“I would like to reassure any potential witnesses who may be worried about making contact with police that Trident has extensive expertise in protecting witnesses and there are a range of measures that can be taken to protect you.”
