UPDATE: Sadly tonight’s screening at the Loughborough Community Centre has been postponed due to the poor weather. The showing at Brixton Rec on October 22 will go ahead as planned.

The Brixton-based documentary Uncle Steadman has lined up two more screenings for the community, starting tonight.

The film, directed by local filmmaker Stuart Everitt and co-produced by Brixton Blog, will be shown tonight at the Loughborough Community Centre, Angell Road, at 7pm and again at Brixton Recreation Centre on October 22.

The documentary follows the parallel lives of Brixton Rec football coach Steadman Scott and the boxer AJ Carter.  It premiered to a sold-out screening and Q and A at the Ritzy Cinema in August.

The film’s promotional blurb reads:

Steadman Scott is a man with a criminal conviction. He’s also a football coach with an extraordinary club, Afewee, who’s on a mission to give confidence, discipline and ultimately success to young children in Brixton.

From Jamaica to Brixton and beyond, Steadman recounts his journey through young manhood, and paints a striking picture of a different era.

Today, in a changed Brixton and a changed Britain, A. J.’s path has uncanny parallels with that of his Uncle Steadman. His life is about to take a new direction in his first professional boxing fight, with more at stake than just victory in the ring.

What does the future hold for Steadman, A. J. and the boys in the Afewee football team?

In this searingly honest documentary, we hear from three generations living in Brixton and learn what success means to them.
